Papercrafting supply donation for Cross Lake, Manitoba

A local radio station in Winnipeg, Virgin 103.1 FM, is asking for donations of arts and crafts supplies to be flown up north to a community called Cross Lake. Cross Lake Cree Nation (Pimicikamak) officials have declared a state of emergency due to a great number of suicides and attempted suicides in their community since December.

"six suicides since December and 140 attempts in the last two weeks alone"

As soon as I heard this, I knew I could tidy up my scraproom a bit and destash some supplies! I am a firm believer in the therapeutic healing that crafting can provide. This area may not have a local scrapbook store but I certainly could provide some paper, adhesive, stickers and diecuts.

(Anyone else cut multiples of a Cricut cut and then just stuff them in a drawer? Am I the only one who cuts out something because it is pretty and then stuff it in a drawer?)

I am happy to say that drawer has been emptied and will soon be flown up North to a town in crisis. If my items give even one person the joy they have provided me, I will be so happy.

December mini album

I have always liked the idea of creating a December Daily mini album. I have admired all the albums posted on blogs, Facebook and Instagram. So much inspiration! I am amazed that some people actually are able to create a page each day even with the insanity of the holiday season.

This January, I printed all my Christmas photos and then found this Document December album by Heidi Swapp on clearance (such a great buy).

This is a kit that includes the album, pages, alphas and ephemera. I decided to use the photos I already printed to create a "December Not Daily" album. It was a lot of work but I feel that an album like this really captures the spirit of the season with more photos and journaling.

I think, I'm hooked! I just need to figure out how to scrap next December, daily or not. I learnt a lot about creating this type of album and hope to use this information for next year!

Note to self, take more vertical photos they fit better in an album that is approximately 6X8 inches. Always adhere your alphas even if they are stickers.

Valentine box card

Happy February! Here is a card I made for my grandmother. I used a simple box card file and just filled it up with love! Now we shall see what Canada Post thinks about this card and what my postage will be. Eek! *Update* Postage was $1.90 within Canada.

Welcome 2016!

Anybody out there make some scrappy resolutions? I try to make some each year. Last year, I did well. I am up to August 2015 in our family scrapbook. I think the only reason I'm not more up to date is because Christmas projects take so much time. Therefore, my first resolution is to take less time on Christmas projects! Just kidding...

My 2016 Scrappy Resolutions

#1 Finish scrapping 2015.

#2 Create a Christmas 2015 album. I am considering a pocket-style album for this which I have never done before.

#3 Learn the Design Space Android App as soon as it is released.

#4 Take more photos!

#5 Have fun with vinyl. I have been playing a bit with vinyl and would like to try some HTV.

Day Twelve of Christmas Projects - Canvas Quote

Day Twelve is a canvas I made for my mantel. I have not done many projects like this so I was still learning as I went.

Lesson 1 - Transfer tape is your friend
Lesson 2 - Placing a book in the middle of the canvas makes the vinyl stick much better



Yay! All twelve projects are complete which includes 50 handmade cards, 20 tags, 6 pop up gift card holders, 7 hot cocoa sliders, 1 scrapbooking layout and 1 canvas!

Day Eleven of Christmas Projects - Quick Pop Up Card

It is December 16th - Crunch time! If you are making cards, I imagine you want them to be simple and quick. Here is my suggestion. It is from the Cricut cartridge Simple Pop Up Cards. This cartridge is included in the Design Space subscription.

I needed to put something on the outside.

I used a Crayola thin marker as well as my scoring tool on this card.
